Yael Demers

Developer & Researcher

I work at the intersection of secure system design and applied machine learning. I’m especially interested in technology that has to hold up in serious environments, where correctness, accountability, and trust matter.

My background spans security leadership in healthtech, applied research in cryptography and machine learning, hands-on software development. Across those areas, I’ve kept coming back to the same question: how do we build complex systems that are easier to understand, defend, and use responsibly?

Outside of tech, I write music, enjoy comic books and fashion. I'm a fan of art in all its forms and love discovering the world through it.

// some projects I've worked on lately

In production

AI-driven clinical tools operating in a regulated health environment. As CISO and cofounder, I lead security, privacy, and compliance strategy while contributing directly to backend and platform development. This work shapes my approach to engineering trust as a first-class system property.

Symmetry-Aware Machine Learning for Scientific Measurement

This research explored how encoding domain knowledge directly into model architecture can improve robustness and interpretability. A key takeaway was that structural constraints often matter more than scale when reliability is critical.

Relativistic Zero-Knowledge Protocol Analysis

Focused on improving soundness guarantees in adversarial settings, this work highlighted the gap between formal security proofs and what remains meaningful once protocols face real-world constraints.

Consulting

Compliance, Security, and AI Governance

I advise early-stage technology teams building products in regulated or high-risk domains, particularly in health and AI-driven systems.

My work focuses on helping teams build defensible foundations for privacy, security, and governance — without enterprise-level tooling or unnecessary overhead.

Areas of focus include:

  • Privacy and data governance frameworks (Québec, Canada, U.S.)
  • Security and compliance foundations for health and AI startups
  • Policy design and operationalization
  • Risk analysis and transparency practices for AI systems

I do not provide legal advice. Legal review is handled in collaboration with qualified counsel when required.
